| 20179 | | HEER 14th PANZER DIVISION MEDALLION w/CASE - Wehrmacht (Army) Medallion issued to the 14th Panzer Division for battle engagements dating from 15th August 1940 through 15th April 1942. The division was retired in April 1945 under terms of surrender along with the entire German nation. The 14th Panzer formation took place 15th August 1940, with engagements following the fall of Czechoslovakia. In April 1941, the Division took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia reaching Sarajevo in preparation for Operation Barbarossa. In June, 1941, the 14th was now a part of the Group South, the Division Group which took part in the invasion of the Soviet Union, or bitterly known as the Russian Front and continuously engaged in battle through 1941 including that winter through the June of 1942, basically as marked on the reverse of the medallion. The Division's logo was the Odalrune as shown at its center with the above mentioned dates on the reverse side of the badge. During the campaign the 14th changed directions from heading North toward Moscow, to Southwest into Stalingrad where the Division was destroyed by opposing forces. The dimensions of the medallion are approximately 50mm and 3.5mm in thickness. The medallion was manufactured by DESCHLER & SOHN, BERLIN, and is also marked the same in the lower left corner of the inner lid. A recessed circle has been created to secure the medallion in the case. The lid is every bit as strong as a fine Knight's Cross Case measuring a bit over 4" square and 20mm in thickness. Detail and crispness is fantastic right down to the chin strap buckle! The medallion is believed to be made out of Cupal, an alloy of aluminum on the outside and a copper core. Weight is 18.46 grammes. These medallions are also known to be highly faked. Obviously, this is not one of those pieces. The Condition of the Medallion and the Case is non-upgradeable and is conservatively judged by me as a stone mint medallion and case. Condition 1 | $1,565.00 |
