EHRENTAFELSPANGE DER KRIEGSMARINE - From July 1941, beginning with Des Heeres, the General Staff compiled a list of soldiers and their units to record and recognise the many acts of valour.  In 1943, Des Kriegsmarine followed suit for Naval personnel and in 1944 by Des Luftwaffe, all recognising this special class of servicemen.  To be on the Honour Role meant you had already been cited for outstanding acts of bravery. In January, 1944 the Führer thought to create an award recognising the valour and bravery of each man recorded in their respective "Honour Role Book."

The Kriegsmarine received the least amount of awards, and can be described as a non-magnetic stamped metal and finished with gold. The reverse has soldered to it 4 round nails to be pierced through the ribbon of a 1939 Iron Cross and mounted onto the tunic in the same fashion as the Iron Cross 1939 2nd Class. In addition, those awarded this clasp had already been awarded at least the 2nd and 1st Class Iron Cross and if not already awarded, was automatically awarded with the German Cross in Gold. This award is absolutely stone mint condition and is mounted to an unused 2nd class Iron Cross Ribbon. As an extremely rare award, less than 40 were awarded to the Kriegsmarine by Grand Admiral Dönitz.
