In lightly worn condition. | $85.00 | | 880 |  | GAUTAG-ABZEICHEN in GERA, THÜRINGEN 1934 - An early NSDAP district meeting in Gera township and major industrial hub from 1564 through 1918. During the rebuilding of the German Empire, Gera was essential in the rise of National Socialism, aiding Hitler's acension to power. This tinnie aproximates the size of an Iron Cross, dimensions 48x41mm, hollow-backed using heavy guage tombak and finished in silver. The reverse is finished as well, a most unusual extra step in manufacturing of tinnie badges. The overall design of using the Thüringen Coate of Arms and its Griffin clasping a mobile swastika, oak leaves with an acorn to each side details a highly thought-out design. Germany's National Sovereign with sloping wings and swastika at rest, all in all, makes this artefact packed with cultural artistry remains unmatched by comparing scores of other tinnies made during the same period. Badge is immaculate in detail, displaying the same crisp features exhibited not less than 76 years ago. An inscription is noted, one on each side of the ascending oak leaves, 1) "Es lebe das ewige" and 2) Deutschland, meaning "a beginning of real everlasting life in Germany." Above the wreath at the centre are the letters "TD" overlaid with each other, just under three Crowns, and the steeples of a church between the wings of the eagle. Truly magnificent. A heavy badge measuring 35x55mm, pin-backed with an attachment plate. The Turnerbund was not affiliated with the National Socialist Movement until well into the 1930's.
